Today, International Nurses’ Day is celebrated around the world each year on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of Nightingale’s birth. To mark this day and to thank nurses for the extraordinary work that they are doing in the fight against coronavirus we will shine a lighted candle in each of the Kirk’s windows from 8.30pm this evening.
“I am of certain convinced that the greatest heroes are those who do their duty in the daily grind of domestic affairs whilst the world whirls as a maddening dreidel.”
Florence Nightingale 1820-1910
